Food & Beverage

Maintaining high standards of food plant sanitization is critical for every food and beverage manufacturer. Proper cleaning and sanitization not only protect consumer safety but also help prevent costly recalls, production downtime, and regulatory issues. In today’s competitive market, effective food plant sanitization goes beyond basic cleaning — it requires advanced chemistry, optimized processes, and solutions that deliver consistent, reliable results.

Our Recommended Food & Beverage Chemicals for Service Providers

AlkaBoost™

AlkaBoost™ is a formulated, very low foaming surfactant and hard water control additive which is readily soluble in 50% caustic soda solutions without the need for prolonged mixing or heating.

Usage: Add at 10% by weight into 90% by weight caustic soda (50% sodium hydroxide) to formulate the concentrated caustic cleaner. This cleaner would then be diluted as needed.

OxiVantage LF™

Ultra-low surface tension (17.41 dynes/cm in bleach) for rapid wetting and penetration on hydrophobic surfaces like roofs and siding. Reduces sodium hypochlorite use by up to 50%. Perfect for low-foam soft wash mixes and spray applications.

Usage: Add at 0.2% in final working solution. Ideal for pros wanting clean, foam-free application.

OxiVantage HF™

Rich, stable high foam (168 mm in testing) with the same ultra-low surface tension and 50% oxidizer reduction. Excellent vertical cling and visual coverage for soft wash roof cleaning.

Usage: Add at 0.2% in final working solution. Great when you want foam for confirmation of full surface contact.

CrudCrusader™

CrudCrusaderTM is a breakthrough in environmentally friendly cleaning, formulated with detergents and wetting agents that work to encapsulate and suspend a wide variety of soils and is well suited for use in all water types. Strong enough for tough industrial jobs yet mild enough for manual cleaning.

Usage: Medium soils such as grease, oil, dirt, grime and food residue. Dilute 1:10 to 1:30 with
water. Apply by brush, spray, soak or scrubbing. After use, rinse with water.

Simplify your process.

Food Plant Sanitization: Advanced CIP Solutions for Food & Beverage

Effective food plant sanitization is essential for protecting product quality, consumer safety, and regulatory compliance in the food and beverage industry. In today’s environment, thorough sanitization goes far beyond basic cleaning — it requires advanced chemistry and optimized processes that consistently deliver reliable hygiene results.

At IG Chemical Solutions, we specialize in high-performance food processing cleaning chemicals and CIP systems specifically designed to support superior hygiene standards across a wide range of food manufacturing, beverage production, and dairy processing applications.

Why Food Plant Sanitization Matters

Food and beverage facilities face constant pressure to maintain the highest levels of hygiene. Inadequate sanitization can lead to microbial contamination, biofilm formation, allergen cross-contact, and costly production interruptions.

Proper sanitization programs help manufacturers:

  • Prevent foodborne illness and product recalls
  • Control biofilms and persistent microbial growth
  • Meet strict FDA, USDA, and third-party audit requirements
  • Protect brand reputation and consumer trust
  • Reduce downtime and improve overall operational efficiency

Common Challenges in Food Plant Sanitization

Many food processing facilities struggle to achieve consistent and effective results due to:

  • Biofilm formation — Resistant microbial communities that are difficult to eliminate with standard cleaners
  • Complex soil types — Fats, proteins, starches, and sugars that require specialized chemistry
  • Allergen management — The need for thorough cleaning between different product runs
  • Scale and mineral deposits — Which can interfere with proper sanitization
  • Long cleaning cycles — That reduce valuable production time

How Our Solutions Improve Food Plant Sanitization

IG Chemical Solutions offers advanced food processing cleaning chemicals and surfactants engineered to enhance sanitization performance. Our products are designed to work effectively within CIP systems to deliver faster, more thorough results.

Key products in our lineup include:

  • AlkaBoost™ — A high-performance alkaline booster that improves soil removal, helps reduce cleaning cycles, and can minimize or eliminate the need for separate acid steps in many applications.
  • pHlexStream™ — A versatile low-foam surfactant blend that enhances wetting, penetration, and rinsing across a wide pH range.
  • OxiVantage LF™ — A low-foam surfactant optimized for use with oxidizing agents to support stronger microbial control during sanitization.

These solutions are formulated to help food and beverage manufacturers achieve higher standards of hygiene while improving efficiency and reducing overall cleaning costs.

Key Benefits of Our Food Plant Sanitization Solutions

Food and beverage facilities using our products commonly report:

  • Improved microbial control and biofilm reduction
  • Shorter CIP cycle times and increased production uptime
  • Better removal of fats, proteins, and complex soils
  • Reduced water and energy consumption
  • Fewer chemical additives required
  • More consistent and reliable sanitization results

Frequently Asked Question

FAQ

What are the most important factors in food processing plant cleaning?
Key factors include proper chemical selection, correct temperature and contact time, effective mechanical action (flow rate and turbulence), and thorough rinsing. Using high-quality food processing cleaning chemicals with strong surfactant systems makes a significant difference in cleaning performance.

How can I reduce cleaning time in my food processing facility?
Many facilities reduce cleaning time by switching to more effective alkaline cleaners with advanced surfactants, optimizing CIP parameters, and in some cases, consolidating steps (such as reducing or eliminating a separate acid wash). Products like AlkaBoost™ are specifically designed to help streamline the process.

What is the best way to control biofilms in food processing equipment?

Biofilms require a combination of proper mechanical cleaning, the right chemistry, and consistent application. Low-foam surfactants and oxidizing agents are particularly effective. Our surfactant products are formulated to penetrate and disrupt biofilm matrices effectively.

What is beer stone and how do I remove it?

Beer stone (calcium oxalate) is a hard mineral deposit that forms inside tanks, pipes, and heat exchangers. It is best removed using alkaline cleaners combined with chelating agents and surfactants. Regular use of properly formulated brewery CIP chemicals helps prevent beer stone from forming in the first place.

Do I need different cleaners for different types of food processing?
Yes. Different food products create different soil types. For example, dairy processing often requires strong alkaline cleaners for milk proteins and fats, while meat processing may need different formulations. We offer both standard and custom-blended food processing cleaning chemicals to match your specific needs.

How important are surfactants in food processing CIP?
Surfactants are critical. They lower surface tension, improve soil penetration, help emulsify fats and oils, and enhance rinsing. Using the right low-foam surfactants can dramatically improve cleaning results in food processing plant cleaning applications.

Can better chemistry help me meet stricter sanitation regulations?
Absolutely. Modern, high-performance food processing cleaning chemicals are designed to deliver more consistent and thorough cleaning, which helps facilities meet increasingly strict FDA, USDA, and third-party audit requirements.

Do you offer bulk pricing or white-label options for contractors?

Yes. Contact us for volume discounts, custom blending, and private labeling opportunities tailored to your business.

Can CIP chemical additives help with microbial control?

Yes, our CIP chemical additives are formulated to enhance microbial control by breaking down biofilms and eliminating bacteria. This helps maintain a sanitary environment, crucial for industries such as food and beverage processing.

What are the lead times and shipping options?
Less Than Truckload shipment on 55-Gallon Drums, 275-Gallon Totes, and Bulk Tanker Truck deliveries.

Expect an estimated 7 Day Lead Time on all orders in Drums and Totes. Reach out to a member of our team for more details on Bulk Delivery Lead Times
